About the Project
PARENTS AS PARTNERS IN WRITING
“When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more."
- A recent report from the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory.
As part of our effort to increase student achievement through literacy, technology and parent involvement, a family writing project has been developed to engage more parent/guardians in the writing process and for students to get more immediate written feedback.
Fourth and fifth grade students will email (or deliver in their backpack) a writing piece to parents a minimum of 2 times this school year. Parents/guardians will act as conferring partners by posing questions to help their child think more deeply about their writing piece and will email it back to their child at school. Parents/ guardians will have access to a website (http://camdenconnection.weebly.com/) outlining directions and criteria for responding to a piece of writing. Teachers will assist in facilitating the process.
Your involvement in this project will help your child become a successful writer, an effective thinker and a confident communicator.
